History and By Laws
Article I--NAME
The name of this organization shall be Greenville Mothers of Multiples Club (GMOMC), a support group for the parents and legal guardians of twins and higher order multiples.
Article II--HISTORY
We were founded April 14, 1964, in Greenville, at the Citizens and Southern Bank Club room. We have been a member of the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs (NOMOTC) since April, 1964. We were members of the Palmetto State Parents of Multiples (PSPM) since its charter in 1986 until 2001.
Article III--OBJECT
The object of this Club shall be to have as its members, parents and legal guardians of twins and higher order multiples, whereby we may secure the educational advantages of lectures, discussions, and instruction in the raising of multiples, and provide social activities where multiples and their families can interact. We shall also help families of multiples in need. We shall participate in research projects conducted by national, state, and local clubs.
Article IV--MEMBERSHIP
Membership shall be composed of parents and legal guardians of twins and higher order multiples upon payment of dues. A membership shall consist of family members residing in the same household as the twins or higher order multiples, and shall be entitled to one vote. This membership will be listed under the primary participant’s name for voting and mailing purposes. As an alternative, the Executive Board may review, on a case by case basis, the option of listing the membership under another name. The benefits of membership shall include, but are not limited to: semi-annual clothing and equipment sales; library resource list; membership directory and handbook; subscriptions to local monthly newsletter, Momoranda, and the National quarterly newsletter, Notebook; support system; social events; affiliation with the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Club (NOMOTC; member discount and selected club merchandise.
Article V--DUES AND FINANCES
Dues for the club shall be $20.00 per household per year to include local and national fees. This shall be subject to increase as deemed necessary. All dues shall be paid by August 1 of each year.
Article VI--MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Meetings shall be held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise notified.

The following shall be the order of business until changed by the Officers:

Article VIII--OFFICERS AND ELECTIONS
1. Officers for this club shall be:
a. President
b. Vice President
c. New Member Liaison
d. Treasurer
e. Secretary
f. National Representative
2. Appointed Officers for this club shall be:
a. Past President
3. A Nominating Chairman, who is a current officer, shall be appointed by the President, along with a Nominating Committee. This committee shall consist of at least two other active members.
4. The Nominating Committee shall prepare a slate of candidates to be published in the May newsletter. At the May meeting, nominations will be called for from the floor. The amended slate will be published in the June newsletter with election of officers to be held at the July meeting.
5. In June, the Nominating Committee shall also name three candidates for Member of the Year based on contributions to the club during the previous calendar year, write a brief description of each candidate and their contributions (without candidate names), and send summaries to another NOMOTC-member club for selection.
6. All elections shall be by written ballot. Absentee vote may be called or mailed to Nominating Chairman or President prior to the July meeting. A majority of ballots cast shall be necessary for election.
7. Officers will be installed at the close of the August meeting. Committee Chairmen and other appointed positions will be announced.
Article IX--QUALIFICATIONS OF OFFICERS
1. Candidates for all offices must have been a member of GMOMC for at least six months prior to nomination. Candidates must serve as an active member of a standing committee, except New Member Liaison.
2. A candidate for President must have served as an officer for the board of GMOMC for one full year within five years of nomination and is a member in good standing during that time. A candidate for President can also be considered if she has served as an officer of any NOMOTC club within the three years of nomination, and has been a member of the GMOMC for six months prior to nomination.
3. Past President shall be a previous President who has held the office within five years. The Past President will be appointed by the President.
4. New Member Liaison shall be member with multiples under age three.
Article X--DUTIES OF OFFICERS
President
1. To preside at meetings of the business body.
2. To have a meeting of old and new officers in May called by outgoing President.
3. To have quarterly meetings of all officers and committee chairmen as deemed necessary by the President or Board.
4. To represent the club at any functions as necessary or appoint another representative.
5. To appoint Chairmen of Committees, not otherwise provided for in these bylaws.
6. To appoint special committees not otherwise provided for in these bylaws.
7. To call special meetings and elections of officers when needed.
8. To perform such other duties as may be provided in these bylaws.
9. To serve on all standing and special committees.
10. To approve and sign all contracts pertaining to GMOMC.
11. To follow procedures as laid out in GMOMC Procedure Manual.
Vice President
1. To serve in place of President in case of absence.
2. To succeed to the office of President in case of vacancy.
3. To serve as Membership Chairman for the current year.
4. To publish membership list by October to be updated as necessary. To keep an active file on all present members and an inactive file on all past members.
5. To contact any active member who misses three consecutive monthly meetings.
6. To follow procedures as laid out in GMOMC Procedure Manual.
Treasurer
1. To collect dues and be custodian of all monies and securities belonging to the Club and disburse subject to the direction of the Club.
2. To serve on the Ways and Means Committee.
3. To view and approve any contract involving monies of GMOMC along with the President.
4. To follow procedures as laid out in the GMOMC Procedure Manual.
New Member Liaison
1. To provide a link between the Board of Directors and New Members.
2. To greet and introduce Guests and New Members.
3. To chair the Welcome Committee.
Secretary
1. To conduct all correspondence as may be required by the club or which may be necessary in fulfilling the duties of her office.
2. To take minutes at all meetings to be published in the newsletter.
3. To follow procedures as laid out in the GMOMC Procedure Manual.
National Representative
1. To attend National Convention if possible.
2. To carry out duties as stated in NOMOTC Member Club Procedure Manual.
3. To follow any additional procedures laid out in the GMOMC Procedure Manual.
Past President
1. To serve in place of President in case of absence.
2. To advice Board of Directors as needed.
Executive Board
1. To be elected officers and past president.
2. To have the power to impeach any Officer, Chairman, or Representative for neglecting duties.
3. To have the power to make executive decisions as needed.
Article XI--STANDING COMMITTEES ↑

Article XII--AMENDMENTS
These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the membership present. Notices of the proposed amendments shall be published in the newsletter and sent to each member at least one (1) week prior to the meeting at which they are to be voted upon.
Article XIII--PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY
PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY FOR THIS CLUB SHALL BE BASED ON ROBERT'S RULES OF ORDER.
